Porsche has kept the promise to bring a new mid engined sports car to 2010 LA show. The brand has also released the first video of the latest variant of its two-seat coupe, 2011 Porsche Cayman R. Its very name, wherein R stands for responsive and refined, and of course racing, pays tribute to the first Porsche with the “R” designation, the 911 R of 1967.
Powering Cayman R is a tuned up 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine generating 330hp. Engine will be mated to Porsche’s excellent PDK automatic or a traditional six-speed manual transmission. The racer is capable of running from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds or 4.7 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono packages and has a top speed caped at 175mph with manual gearbox and 174 with PDK.
The engineers at Porsche have toiled hard to improve the power to weight ratio in Porsche Cayman R, which is 3.9kg and 4kg per horsepower with manual gearbox version and PDK respectively. Apart from this, peculiar attention has also been paid to reduce the weight of the vehicle. For that matter, Porsche has used lightweight components and 19 inch light wheels.
Further, Porsche Cayman R features a 20mm lowered ride height, has new alloy wheels, black-framed headlights and black exterior mirrors. Inside the cabin, the Cayman R features Alcantara and leather upholstery, sport seats, strap door handles and a painted console color-keyed to the exterior. Porsche Cayman R go on sale in February 2011, at a price of $66,300.
